Trim Pieces,
1- Music/Environmental Control Panel Trim Piece, 2 - Pens of Adhesive
Promoter
Please Note:
Interior vinyl surfaces that have been treated with any kind of silicone
treatment such as Armor-All or Vinyl Brite will make it so the moldings
will not stick well. Thoroughly clean the area where the molding will
be mounted with a cleaner such as ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL (Found at Walmart or
your local hardware store).
-
IMPORTANT:
Clean door panel, Dash area, Door Speaker areas where you are going
to mount the moldings with household rubbing alcohol and ISOPROPYL
ALCOHOL then wipe off any and all residues. Then wipe until dry.
-
Start with the
“Dash Oval Instrument Panel” piece first. It is the most narrow of
the trim pieces. Take the piece and hold it up to the oval
instrument panel.
Do not take the red backing off the molding
yet.
You might even want to tape it down in a few places just to get an
idea of how it fits. It is supposed to be slightly too long so that
you can cut it to the exact size once it is mounted (use scissors).
Once you feel comfortable with how it will fit remove the molding
and re-insure that the area it is be mounted is clean.
-
Carefully wipe
the exact area where the molding will be mounted with the Adhesive
Promoter packet provided. This helps the molding to form a permanent
bond. Keep the molding as close to the edge of the instrument panel
as possible.
Note: Only wipe the area
right before you are ready to mount the molding.
Put the end of the
molding at the center of the bottom painted oval instrument panel and
hold it there. (This is where your seam will end up.) While holding
this down carefully work the molding along the edge of the Dash sticking
it down as you go. Pull the Red back side of the molding off as needed,
as you go.
Press the molding firmly as you go.
Once you reach the sharp bend at the side of the instrument panel hold
the molding down tightly at the edge of this curve. Then bend the
molding sharply. Holding it down tightly as you mount it around the
bend. Once you reach the seam allow the two ends (the mounted where you
first started) to overlap. Measure the excess (the overlap) and Trim
off the excess molding with a pair of scissors. The fit should be very
tight. Note: It is better to end up a little long and trim it again
than too short. If you end up too short, then you can hold the molding
down and stretch it until the ends meet tightly at the seam.
