Your new trim part may NOT stick to the inside surfaces of your car!
IMPORTANT! – READ THIS BEFORE YOU INSTALL YOUR PART(S)
SPECIAL PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS For mounting ALL Interior trim parts
In many situations, interior panels and surfaces become saturated with silicone chemicals such as Armor-All (even if applied years ago) or other residues. Although these treatments make the door surfaces look nice, the chemicals become embedded in the ABS plastic of your door panels or dashboard. These treatments must be removed to properly bond new trim pieces.
Removal can take some effort. The most effective method is to use several different solvents to break down these chemicals.
NOTE: Apply this cleaning process only to the surface areas where you will be mounting your new interior trim parts.
Included: Stainless steel trim piece(s), one packet of promoter or promoter pen, and one test kit.
Trim pieces may be mounted inside or outside the vehicle. They will not rust or corrode.
- Clean the surface area with soap and water. VERY IMPORTANT: Next, thoroughly scrub with rubbing alcohol to remove any invisible oils from the surface.
- Use the small red scrub pad (included with some parts in your test kit) to roughen the surface where you will mount your new trim piece.
- Take a piece of double-sided tape from the test kit (or masking tape if no kit is available). Press it onto the surface where the trim will be mounted. Try several areas. If the tape adheres aggressively, you are ready to proceed. If it does not, re-clean the surface using a strong alcohol-based solution and scrub vigorously.
- Open the foil packet of promoter or use the promoter pen. This solution is safe for your car’s interior and exterior finish. Ensure the temperature is between 60°F and 85°F. Wipe the mounting area with the moist pad and let it dry for two minutes.
- Hold your trim piece up to the area where it will be mounted. If the part is metal and fits on a curved surface, gently bend it to conform to the shape of the mounting surface. Ensure it aligns exactly with the area.
- Once aligned, peel the red backing off the trim piece. Gently set it in place, make any small adjustments, and then press firmly over the entire surface.
- Let the trim piece set overnight before exposing it to water.
